Eat: Medan Town

Medan-Town---Soto-Udang

It’s no surprise that Katong is foodie heaven. And now a newly opened Indonesian eatery has now joined this mini food paradise, serving up casual, home-styled Medanese dishes. Our favourite is the Soto Udang – a spicy prawn broth that comes with an extra crunch, thanks to the melinjo (bite-sized crackers) thrown in. Another mustr-try is Bihun Bebek, duck noodles drizzled with pork lard oil (the extra calories are soooo worth it) and topped with shredded duck and crispy fried garlic.

Location: 253 Tanjong Katong Road
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 11am – 10pm

Drink: Cafe Gavroche

Who says you need a passport to go to Paris? Cafe Gavroche serves up aromatic French brews like the Malongo coffee and artisan Parisan tea by Dammann Freres. The rustic ambience (think wooden countertops, wicker chairs and melodious French tunes playing through the day) completes the Parisian experience.

Opening Hours: Tues to Thurs, 10.30am – 10pm; Fri & Sat, 1030am to 11pm; Sun, 10am – 6pm

Watch your childhood playthings come to life here with 52 large-scale Lego sculptures.

Eat:  Salt Grill & Sky Bar

If you ask us, we think brunch is the best meal of the day. And there are few better places to have brunch than at Salt Grill & Sky Bar. In celebration of their second birthday, Salt has put together new menus, with the introduction of a brunch menu that is not your usual English breakfast and poached eggs. Instead, feast on exciting new creations like Wild Mushroom on Toasted Brioche – it’s comfort food with a lavish touch. Of course, the magnificent view doesn’t hurt, too.

Location: Ion Orchard, Level 55/56, Tel: 6592 5118
Opening Hours: Daily, 11.30am – 2pm, 6pm – 10pm

Drink: Dolcetto by Basilico

This holiday season, lend your kind support to HIV/AIDS sufferers by purchasing a Viva Glam Lipstick at Tangs this Saturday. 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards helping these sufferers, and don’t belittle your contribution; just a simple lipstick pays for half a month of HAART treatment (the drug regimen that manages the virus), or a month’s worth of vitamins for a person living with HIV. While there still isn’t a cure for the virus, HIV sufferers can still lead a fulfilling life with proper management of the illness and with our support and encouragement. The Cosmo editorial team will be there too, so come by to say hi!
